Sugared cranberries on a festive table setting

These sugared cranberries are a delightful burst of sweet and tart flavor, perfect for garnishing desserts, cheeseboards, or simply snacking. They’re incredibly easy to make and add a festive touch to any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 ounces fresh cranberries
  • 2 cups granulated sugar, divided
  • ¾ cup water

Instructions

  1. Wash and pick over the cranberries, removing any stems or bruised berries.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine the water and 1 cup of sugar. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring until the sugar is dissolved.
  3. Add the cranberries to the sugar syrup and cook for 1-2 minutes, just until the skins begin to crack.
  4. Remove from heat and let the cranberries sit in the syrup for at least 1 hour, or up to 4 hours.
  5. Drain the cranberries thoroughly using a strainer.
  6. Place the remaining 1 cup of sugar in a shallow dish. Roll the drained cranberries in the sugar until completely coated.
  7. Spread the sugared cranberries in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  8. Let the cranberries dry for at least 1 hour, or until the sugar coating is firm.

Notes

For a festive twist, try adding a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg to the sugar before coating the cranberries.
