Homemade Steakhouse Potatoes Romanov

Steakhouse Potatoes Romanov features tender, golden-brown potatoes baked with creamy mushroom sauce and melted cheese, perfect as a hearty side for your favorite steak.

  • 4 large russet potatoes, peeled and sliced thin
  • 1 cup mushrooms, sliced
  • 1/2 cup onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add onions and garlic; sauté until translucent.
  3. Add mushrooms; cook until tender and any liquid evaporates. Season with salt and pepper.
  4. In a bowl, combine sour cream and heavy cream.
  5. Layer half the sliced potatoes in a greased baking dish.
  6. Spread the mushroom mixture evenly over the potatoes.
  7. Pour half the sour cream mixture over the mushrooms.
  8. Sprinkle half the cheddar cheese and a little Parmesan on top.
  9. Repeat layers with remaining potatoes, sour cream, and cheeses.
  10. Cover with foil and bake for 40 minutes.
  11. Remove foil; bake an additional 15 minutes until cheese is bubbly and golden.
  12. Garnish with chopped parsley before serving.

Notes

For extra richness, add a splash of white wine to the mushroom sauté, or top with crispy bacon bits for a savory twist.
