French toast sticks

French toast sticks are crispy, golden-brown strips of classic French toast, perfect for dipping in syrup and making a fun breakfast treat.

  • 4 slices of bread (preferably thick-cut)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • Pinch of salt
  • Butter or oil for frying
  • Maple syrup for serving

Instructions

  1. Cut each slice of bread into 3–4 sticks.
  2. In a shallow bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, vanilla extract, cinnamon, sugar, and salt until well combined.
  3. Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat and add butter or oil to coat the surface.
  4. Dip each bread stick into the egg mixture, ensuring it is fully coated.
  5. Place the sticks on the skillet and cook for 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown and cooked through.
  6. Remove from the skillet and keep warm. Repeat with remaining sticks.
  7. Serve warm with maple syrup for dipping.

Notes

For extra crispiness, sprinkle some powdered sugar on top or serve with fresh fruit on the side.
