Omurice Japanese Rice Omelet

Omurice is a delightful Japanese comfort food featuring ketchup-flavored fried rice wrapped in a fluffy omelet, perfect for a satisfying and easy meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups cooked white rice
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup cooked chicken, diced
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Butter for cooking eggs

Instructions

  1. Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add chopped onions and sauté until translucent.
  2. Add diced chicken and cook until heated through.
  3. Mix in cooked rice, ketchup, and soy sauce. Stir well and cook for 2-3 minutes. Season with salt and pepper. Remove from heat and set aside.
  4. Beat the eggs with a pinch of salt.
  5. In another non-stick pan, melt butter over medium heat. Pour in the beaten eggs and cook until the surface is slightly runny but the bottom is set.
  6. Place the fried rice mixture onto one side of the omelet and carefully fold the other side over the rice.
  7. Gently slide the omurice onto a plate, seam side down. Optionally, garnish with additional ketchup.

Notes

For a creamier texture, add a splash of milk to the beaten eggs before cooking, and serve with a side salad for a balanced meal.
