Mustard Greens Recipe

A flavorful and nutritious sautéed mustard greens recipe that is perfect as a healthy side dish or a vibrant addition to any meal.

  • 1 bunch mustard greens, washed and chopped
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Salt to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice or apple cider vinegar

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Stir in the minced garlic and red pepper flakes, cooking for an additional 1 minute until fragrant.
  4. Add the chopped mustard greens to the skillet, stirring well to combine with the aromatics.
  5. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the greens are wilted and tender, about 8-10 minutes.
  6. Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste.
  7. Remove from heat and drizzle with lemon juice or apple cider vinegar for a bright finish.
  8. Serve warm as a side dish or incorporated into your favorite main courses.

Notes

For extra flavor, add a splash of soy sauce or cook with smoked bacon pieces. Mustard greens also pair well with garlic mashed potatoes or grilled meats.
