This Loaded Green Bean Casserole takes the classic holiday side dish to the next level with crispy bacon, caramelized onions, and a generous topping of cheddar cheese. It’s a comforting and flavorful twist that will be a guaranteed crowd-pleaser.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 8 ounces bacon, cooked and crumbled
  • 2 (14.5 ounce) cans green beans, drained
  • 1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 1/3 cups french fried onions, divided

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until caramelized and golden brown, about 15-20 minutes.
  3. In a large bowl, combine the drained green beans, cream of mushroom soup, milk, pepper, cooked bacon, and caramelized onions. Stir well to combine.
  4. Pour the mixture into a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  5. Sprinkle cheddar cheese over the top of the casserole.
  6. Top with 2/3 cup of french fried onions.
  7. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until heated through and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  8. Sprinkle the remaining 2/3 cup french fried onions over the casserole during the last 5 minutes of baking to prevent burning.
  9. Let stand for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

For an extra touch of flavor, consider adding a splash of Worcestershire sauce to the green bean mixture before baking. Serve hot as a side dish for Thanksgiving, Christmas, or any special occasion.
