King Cake Bites

Delight in these festive King Cake Bites, mini treats bursting with cinnamon sugar and a sweet cream cheese filling, perfect for celebrating Mardi Gras or any special occasion.

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tbsp milk
  • Colored sanding sugar (purple, green, gold) for topping
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, mix cream cheese, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  3. Unfold the puff pastry sheet and cut into 16 equal squares.
  4. Place about a teaspoon of the cream cheese mixture in the center of each square.
  5. Sprinkle cinnamon over the cream cheese filling.
  6. Fold each square over the filling to form a triangle and seal edges by pressing with a fork.
  7. Brush each bite with beaten egg to create a golden finish.
  8. Bake for 15-18 minutes or until puffed and golden brown.
  9. Meanwhile, whisk powdered sugar with milk to create a glaze.
  10. Drizzle glaze over warm bites and immediately sprinkle with colored sanding sugar in purple, green, and gold.
  11. Allow to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Serve King Cake Bites warm for the best texture and flavor. For an extra festive touch, add a small plastic baby figurine inside a bite before baking, traditionally used in King Cake celebrations.
