Homemade Green Bean Casserole on a Wooden Table

This classic Green Bean Casserole is a comforting and easy-to-make side dish, perfect for holiday gatherings or weeknight dinners. Crispy fried onions top tender green beans in a creamy mushroom sauce for a crowd-pleasing favorite.

  • 1 pound fresh green beans, trimmed
  • 1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 1/3 cups French fried onions, divided
  • 1 tablespoon butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. Steam or boil green beans until tender-crisp, about 5-7 minutes. Drain well.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine the cream of mushroom soup, milk, pepper, and half of the French fried onions. Stir well.
  4. Add the cooked green beans to the soup mixture and stir to coat.
  5. Pour the green bean mixture into a greased 1 1/2-quart casserole dish. Dot with butter.
  6. Bake for 20 minutes, or until heated through and bubbly.
  7. Sprinkle the remaining French fried onions over the top of the casserole.
  8. Bake for an additional 5 minutes, or until the onions are golden brown.
  9. Let stand for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

For an extra touch, add a sprinkle of shredded cheddar cheese during the last 5 minutes of baking. You can also use frozen green beans for convenience.
