garlic cottage cheese naan

Garlic cottage cheese naan is a delicious Indian flatbread stuffed with spiced paneer and infused with fragrant garlic, perfect as a snack or accompaniment to any meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup grated paneer (cottage cheese)
  • 3-4 cloves garlic, finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup plain yogurt
  • 2 tbsp oil or ghee
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp sugar
  • 1/4 tsp salt (adjust to taste)
  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh cilantro
  • Warm water as needed
  • Butter or ghee for brushing

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.
  2. Add yogurt and oil to the dry ingredients and mix well.
  3. Gradually add warm water and knead into a smooth, soft dough. Cover and let it rest for 30-40 minutes.
  4. In a separate bowl, mix grated paneer, chopped garlic, and cilantro. Add a pinch of salt if desired.
  5. Divide the dough into equal portions. Roll each portion into a small circle.
  6. Place a spoonful of the paneer mixture in the center of the dough circle.
  7. Fold the edges over the filling and seal tightly.
  8. Roll out the stuffed dough gently into a naan shape, about 1/4 inch thick.
  9. Heat a skillet or tawa on medium-high heat. Cook the naan for 2-3 minutes on one side until bubbles form.
  10. Flip and cook the other side for another 2 minutes, brushing with butter or ghee.
  11. Repeat with remaining dough and filling.
  12. Serve hot with chutney or curry of your choice.

Notes

For an extra flavor boost, brush the naan with garlic butter before serving or add finely chopped green chilies to the paneer filling.
