Frosted Lofthouse Cookies

These soft and pillowy Lofthouse cookies are topped with a creamy, sweet frosting and colorful sprinkles. Perfect for a party or a sweet treat any time of day!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon almond extract
  • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup sour cream

Frosting:

  • ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • ¼ cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Food coloring (optional)
  • Sprinkles, for decorating

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla and almond extracts.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the sour cream, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
  6. Drop by rounded tablespoons onto ungreased baking sheets.
  7. Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
  8. Let cool on baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
  9. Frosting: In a large bowl, cream together the butter and powdered sugar until smooth.
  10. Gradually add the milk and vanilla extract, beating until light and fluffy.
  11. If desired, add food coloring to the frosting.
  12. Frost the cooled cookies and decorate with sprinkles.

Notes

For extra soft cookies, don’t overbake them. They should still be slightly soft in the center. Store in an airtight container at room temperature.
