Shepherds Pie

Shepherds Pie is a comforting classic dish featuring a savory ground meat and vegetable filling topped with creamy mashed potatoes and baked to golden perfection.

  • 1 lb ground lamb or beef
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups mixed vegetables (peas, carrots, corn)
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 4 cups mashed potatoes
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add chopped onion and garlic, cooking until softened.
  3. Add ground lamb or beef to the skillet and cook until browned, breaking up any lumps.
  4. Stir in tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, and beef broth. Simmer for 10 minutes until slightly thickened.
  5. Add mixed vegetables, salt, and pepper. Cook for another 5 minutes.
  6. Transfer the meat and vegetable mixture to a baking dish.
  7. Spread mashed potatoes evenly over the top of the meat mixture. Dot with butter.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until the potatoes are golden and the filling is bubbling.
  9. Let it cool slightly before serving.

Notes

For extra flavor, try adding a sprinkle of shredded cheddar cheese on top of the mashed potatoes before baking.
