Creamed Spinach

Creamed Spinach is a rich and velvety side dish featuring fresh spinach cooked in a creamy, garlicky sauce, perfect for pairing with steak or roasted meats.

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 10 ounces fresh spinach, washed and chopped
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.
  2. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another 30 seconds until fragrant.
  4. Add the fresh spinach in batches, stirring until wilted before adding more.
  5. Pour in the heavy cream, stirring to combine, and bring to a gentle simmer.
  6. Season with nutmeg, salt, and pepper, adjusting to taste.
  7. Cook the mixture until the cream thickens slightly, about 5 minutes.
  8. If desired, stir in the grated Parmesan cheese until melted and well combined.
  9. Remove from heat and serve warm.

Notes

For extra flavor, try adding a pinch of crushed red pepper flakes or a squeeze of lemon juice before serving.
