Decadent Chocolate Mousse Cake

  • 1 box (15.25 ounces) chocolate cake mix, plus ingredients called for on box
  • 1 package (3.9 ounces) instant chocolate pudding mix
  • 2 cups cold milk
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 12 ounces frozen whipped topping, thawed
  • Chocolate shavings, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare cake mix according to package directions. Bake in a 9×13 inch pan and let cool completely.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the chocolate pudding mix and cold milk until smooth. Let stand for 5 minutes to thicken slightly.
  3. In a separate bowl, beat cream cheese and powdered sugar until smooth and creamy. Stir in vanilla extract.
  4. Gently fold the whipped topping into the cream cheese mixture.
  5. Spread the pudding mixture evenly over the cooled cake.
  6. Spread the cream cheese mixture over the pudding layer.
  7. Garnish with chocolate shavings, if desired.
  8. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.

Notes

For an extra layer of flavor, drizzle with chocolate syrup before serving. You can also substitute the chocolate cake mix with your favorite homemade chocolate cake recipe.
