Classic Cheesy Green Bean Casserole

This cheesy green bean casserole is a delicious twist on a classic holiday side dish. Fresh green beans are combined with a creamy cheese sauce and topped with crispy fried onions for a comforting and flavorful meal.

  • 1 pound fresh green beans, trimmed
  • 1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 1/3 cups French fried onions, divided

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. Steam or boil green beans until tender-crisp, about 5-7 minutes. Drain well.
  3. In a large bowl, combine cream of mushroom soup, milk, cheddar cheese, Parmesan cheese, salt, and pepper.
  4. Add green beans to the soup mixture and stir to coat.
  5. Pour the mixture into a greased 9×13 inch baking dish.
  6. Top with 2/3 cup French fried onions.
  7. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until heated through and bubbly.
  8. Sprinkle remaining 2/3 cup French fried onions over the casserole during the last 5 minutes of baking.
  9. Let stand for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

For a spicier kick, add a pinch of cayenne pepper to the soup mixture. You can also substitute different types of cheese, such as Gruyere or Monterey Jack.
