Cheddar Jalapeño Burgers

Spicy and cheesy, Cheddar Jalapeño Burgers bring a flavorful kick to a classic favorite with melted sharp cheddar and fresh jalapeños in every bite.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20 blend)
  • 4 slices sharp cheddar cheese
  • 2 fresh jalapeños, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • Lettuce leaves (optional)
  • Tomato slices (optional)
  • Mayonnaise or preferred condiments

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, chopped onion, minced garlic, salt, black pepper, and smoked paprika. Mix gently until just combined.
  2. Form the mixture into 4 evenly sized patties, slightly larger than the buns to account for shrinkage when cooking.
  3. Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat and brush with olive oil to prevent sticking.
  4. Place the patties on the grill/skillet and cook for about 4-5 minutes on one side.
  5. Flip the patties, then immediately top each with a slice of cheddar cheese and a few jalapeño slices.
  6. Cook for another 4-5 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C) and cheese is melted.
  7. Toast the hamburger buns lightly on the grill or in a toaster.
  8. Assemble the burgers by placing lettuce and tomato on the bottom bun, followed by the patty with cheese and jalapeños, then spread mayonnaise or preferred condiments on the top bun.
  9. Serve hot and enjoy!

Notes

For an extra smoky flavor, try grilling the jalapeños whole first before slicing, or serve with avocado slices for creaminess.
