Delight in these homemade blueberry bagels, perfectly chewy with bursts of sweet blueberries in every bite—ideal for breakfast or a wholesome snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 ½ cups bread flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 tablespoon instant yeast
  • 1 ¼ cups warm water
  • 1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup (for boiling water)
  • Optional toppings: coarse sugar or blueberries

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine bread flour, sugar, salt, and instant yeast.
  2. Gradually add warm water and knead until a smooth, elastic dough forms, about 10 minutes.
  3. Gently fold fresh or frozen blueberries into the dough, being careful not to crush them.
  4. Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and let rise until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
  5. Divide dough into 8 equal pieces and shape each into a ball; poke a hole in the center of each ball and gently stretch to form bagels.
  6. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Bring a large pot of water to a boil and add maple syrup.
  7. Boil bagels in batches for 1 minute on each side, then transfer to a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  8. Optionally sprinkle toppings on bagels before baking.
  9. Bake for 20–25 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through.
  10. Cool on a wire rack before serving.

Notes

For a creamier texture, serve with cream cheese or a drizzle of honey. To enhance blueberry flavor, add a teaspoon of vanilla extract to the dough.
