Applesauce Cake

A moist and flavorful applesauce cake that combines warm spices with natural fruit sweetness, perfect for a cozy dessert or snack.

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)
  • 1/2 cup raisins (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×9 inch baking pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves.
  3. In a large bowl, beat together granulated sugar, brown sugar, and eggs until creamy.
  4. Stir in applesauce, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract until combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing just until incorporated.
  6. Fold in walnuts and raisins if using.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
  8. Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.

Notes

For extra moisture and flavor, serve with a dollop of whipped cream or cream cheese frosting.
