This Amish Hamburger Steak Bake is a hearty and comforting dish featuring seasoned hamburger patties baked in a creamy, savory sauce. It’s an easy weeknight dinner the whole family will love!

  • 1.5 lbs ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 green bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 (10.75 oz) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 4 cups cooked mashed potatoes
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large skillet, brown ground beef over medium-high heat. Drain off any excess grease.
  3. Add chopped onion and green bell pepper to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5-7 minutes.
  4. In a medium bowl, whisk together cream of mushroom soup, milk, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  5. Pour the soup mixture over the ground beef and vegetables in the skillet. Stir to combine.
  6. Transfer the mixture to a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  7. Spread mashed potatoes evenly over the meat mixture.
  8. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the mashed potatoes.
  9. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the dish is heated through.
  10. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

For an extra layer of flavor, top with crispy fried onions before baking.
